Below is a little background to some of our permanent ales.

We also brew our new seasonal speciality brews under our ‘Bakehouse Brewery’ umbrella. For details please see

Lady Godiva 4.2% – Named after Earl of Mercia’s wife who rode around Coventry on horse back naked (you’ve probably heard about it!) to oppose taxes.

Duck Soup 4.2% – Initially brewed as the house beer for the Student’s Union pub ‘The Dirty Duck’ at Warwick University’s Student Union, has now gone on to becoming somewhat of a cult favourite. A full flavoured chestnut bitter with rich malty overtones.

Shakespeare’s County 3.4% (in bottles 5%) – A refreshing lower gravity deep copper ale with fruity, spicy & floral smell. Full bodied, soft & hoppy to taste. Named after good old Bill Shakespeare who was born down the road in Stratford Upon Avon.

Darling Buds 4.0% – Our award winning CAMRA Champion Beer of Warwickshire is a 4.0% golden/blonde ale. Crystal and Maris Otter combined with wheat make this a refreshing full-bodied bitter.

Kingmaker 5.5% – Named after Richard Neville, the (Earl of Warwick) became known as the ‘Kingmaker’ after his role in the war of the roses. His tomb is at St. Mary’s Church in town centre, Warwick. A rich fruity beer, ruddy brown/amber in colour and easy drinking considering the strength so treat with caution! A warming alcoholic finish.

Golden Bear 4.7% – An assertive golden brown beer characterised by a long lasting slightly resiny bitterness. The finish is fruity and warming with hints of spice and orange.

Yer’ Bard 4.3% – Our newest ale brewed to celebrate Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary. A rich copper ale, aromas of toffee & fudge malts with raspberry & nuttiness. Flavours: sweet fudge with a citrus & hoppy finish.
